As we
approach UFC 118 this Saturday August 28th that takes place in
Boston, MA
the focus of discussion has been on the MMA debut of one James “Lights Out”
Toney. James will be taking on MMA legend Randy”The Natural” Couture in
his first fight in the famed octagon. While the fans of both Boxing &
MMA will argue who the winner will be or what the outcome I decided to look at
the transition from Boxing to MMA.
Toney’s
debut is a first for UFC fans. This will be the first time that a boxer of this
caliber brings his credentials to the Octagon. Toney is a multi-division
champion who has won world titles from middleweight to heavyweight while
defeating a who’s who of boxing. The future hall of famer is certainly the most
accomplished boxer to make the change to MMA but not the first. Jeremy
“Half-Man, Half-Amazing” Williams did the same in 2005. The former boxer who had
a distinguished amateur career and who as a professional challenged for
Heavyweight title knows what it takes to make the leap into MMA.
How
much could Toney learn in less than a year worth of training? Is he prepared for
the kicks, knees, takedowns and submissions of MMA? “It’s a completely different
sport and completely different set of boundaries.” “It’s a hard realization that
a punch is not the har..........

MARTIAL COMBAT 7 AND MARTIAL COMBAT 8 RESULTS August 18/19, 2010 Resort World Sentosa Sentosa, Singapore Next Scheduled events: September - Martial Combat 9 and 10
Filipinos Ole Laursen and Sabah Fadai (picture above) hard-fought victories at Martial Combat 8 showed once again that the Philippines is quickly becoming the hotbed of Asia’s Mixed Martial Arts. Following up on Angelo Manguray’s spectacular victory at Martial Combat 7, the two fighters made their mark at Sentosa Resorts World.
.Martial Combat 7: Middleweght Superfight Joe Ray KO's Chad Reiner
American Joe Ray connected with a right hand to KO compatriot Chad Reiner at Martial Combat 7 on Wednesday. The 3-0 Ray (pictured in the black trunks) floored the 25-11 Reiner in round three.
The fight started tentatively with both men looking to conserve energy. Reiner was then able to take Ray down early on in the round but he popped straight back up and connected with some well timed uppercuts. Ray connected late in that round and was looking to finish the fight there and then but ended up in Reiner's half guard instead as the bell sounded.
Ray, clearly looking more comfortable standing up, was having success with his spinning back elbow. The two fighters clinch..........

Sengoku Raiden Championships 14: Jorge Santiago retains Middleweight title and Akihiro Gono looses at Lightweight debut
Watch it on HDNet Friday August 27 at 10PM ET
World Victory Road held the Sengoku Raiden Championship 14 in Tokyo, Japan on August 22, 2010. The main event consisted of a Middleweight Championship bout between Jorge Santiago (Brazil - reigning champ) and Kazuo Misaki (Japan). This was a rematch of their 2009 title fight in which Santiago was victorious. These two fighters might have just saved the global appeal of Japan based MMA with another awesome performence by both fighters. The fight had all the drama needed for a classic battle from a champion in distress and loosing the fight but finding a way to win in the final round. MMA veteran Akihiro Gono's experiment dropping to the Lightweight division was a disaster beaten by a very motivated Mongolian fighter Jadamba Narantungalag. In case you missed it you can whatch a rerun on HDNet on Friday August 27th at 10PM ET and Saturday August 28th at 3AM ET.
