UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION GEORGES ST-PIERRE OPENS UP ON THIS WEEKEND’S INTERIM TITLE FIGHT
Author: UFC
Date: 1/31/2012
Las Vegas, Nevada – On Saturday night, live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, elite welterweights Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit will collide for the interim UFC 170lbs championship.
UFC superstar Georges St-Pierre will be a very interested – and conflicted – ringside observer to the UFC 143 main event. ‘GSP’ has been the undisputed welterweight king since the spring of 2008, but knee injuries have forced him to withdraw from scheduled bouts with both Condit and Diaz and so he must sit on the sidelines while the pair stake a claim to his crown.

HERNÁNDEZ (25-1, 13 KOs) will face two-time world champion STEVE ‘USS’ CUNNINGHAM (24-3, 12

Boxing-online.com has caught up with the 27-year-old
Cuban.
Q: Yoan Pablo,
you will be facing Steve Cunningham for the second time on Saturday. Are you
upset about giving him a rematch?
YPH:
“No, not at all, much on the contrary. I am happy to fight him again. I will
show everybody that I am the better fighter. If there are any doubts, I will
erase them”.
Q: The first
fight came to a controversial ending. Cunningham believes you could have fought
on despite the cuts. What´s your take on that?

Republic born “Black Wolf” Encarnacion. Not a
puncher, despite knocking down his challenger with a left hook in the second,
southpaw Ziani does a Henry Armstrong imitation with his non-stop style ,which
gives Encarnacion no chance to get into the fight. Scores 100-90, 99-90 and 98-91. First

Two weeks ago, Guillermo “El
Chacal” Rigondeaux sent shockwaves throughout the junior featherweight division
with a dominant 6th round TKO victory over the then WBA champion Rico
Ramos. Rigondeaux, who at the time was the interim champion, would claim the
regular WBA title and sent a message to everyone in the division that he had
arrived. Shortly after the fight Rigondeaux would turn his attention to the new
comer in the division, the Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire. Rigondeaux would call
out Donaire during his post fight interview, providing ammunition for countless
debates among boxing fanatics and pundits alike.
And so with a title fight in the
horizon, Nonito was nevertheless asked his thoughts on a fight with the Cuban
during his open media workout from the Top Rank gym this past Saturday. Donaire
would go on to comment that he was not opposed to the fight, but was not overly
excited at the prospect of facing an opponent that he considers a “boring
fighter”.
“It would be great, but you know
one thing is we have had our list of fighters and that’s what we are going to
try to do,” said Donaire to the press at hand. “The guys who I am task are no

said Duboef. “Where someone is

He’s got a real tough fight, Vazquez is bigger than anyone he’s ever fought and
his aggressive and really was winning the Arce fight. He was one round away from
winning that fight. So this is going to be a real barometer to see how Nonito
does with Vazquez and how he would do with Arce in the future. “

RIOS: I ONLY TOOK OFF TWO WEEKS AFTER MY LAST FIGHT. I WANT BIG FIGHTS!

The always colorful
Bam Bam Brandon Rios recently reached out to BoxeoMundial, never at a loss for
words we discussed weight issues, fight plans, the expectant birth of Brandon II
and everything in-between.
The undefeated
former WBA lightweight champion lost his title on the scales in his last fight
back on December 03, 2011 not able to get down to the 135 lb. weight limit. The
fight with John Murray moved forward with the 135 lb. strap vacant with only
Murray eligible to win the title. Despite the outcome with all the prefight
disappointments title or no title, Brandon did not disappoint and put on
arguably the best fight on the card in a fight that had all out action in all
eleven rounds before Referee Earl Brown called a halt to the action at 2:06 in
round eleven.
After the fight
there has been much speculation in the media and fans weather or not Brandon
would leave the division and head north five pounds to the hot junior
welterweight division. Rios made it very clear in our discussion that due to
fault of his own he was not able to make the weight back in December and he
clearly intends to get right back in the saddle and pursue a big fight in the
division before moving up in weight. “I have to put blame on myself for not

"My fighter will beat everybody in the heavyweight division; it's only a matter of time," says Boris Grinberg of AB Boxing, manager and father figure of undefeated Russian heavyweight Magomed "Mago" Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs).
To say Team Abdusalamov is confident their fighter is the next big thing in the heavyweight division is an understatement. They are certain of it. "This guy beats everybody, including the Klitschkos. He's too big and strong. Nobody can even go more than a few rounds with him in sparring."
Abdusalamov will face Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs) in one of the televised bouts of the Friday, February 3, ESPN Friday Night Fights broadcast presented by Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.
The event, entitled "Superbrawls", will be topped by a 10-round light heavyweight main event between Colombian powerhouse Edison "Pantera" Miranda and South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba, and also feature Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas and Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs) in the eight-round lightweight co-main event

The UFC offers up the
initial show of their landmark Fox deal on Saturday night. Even detractors of
the organization and sport have to admit that they work until they get things
right. One fight in a sport with such propensity for early endings just isn’t
enough, so they are coming with two major bouts that could lead to the two
biggest grudge matches in UFC history.
Dating back to his days
on The Ultimate Fighter, Rashad Evans had a style that just didn’t resonate with
fans. But Shad got their attention outside of the ring and he realizes it
doesn’t matter if they love you or hate you as long as they aren’t indifferent.
Inside the cage I think he has always been, and continues to be, underrated.
Evans came to the sport with a strong wrestling base and a lot of heart. Coupled
with his dynamic athleticism that was a great starting point and he has added a
strong stand up game to go with it. Evans is small for the Light Heavyweight
division and I think the lack of weight cuts enables him to excel with his fast
twitch game. The only chink in his armor is a less than concrete chin, but one
exception against Lyoto Mac..........

The road to UFC gold unfolds this weekend from Chicago, where two title shots are on the line in the main and co-main event of the evening. First, middleweights Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping duke it out for the right to face 185-pound champion and top-ranked fighter, Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Then for the main event, undefeated Phil Davis clashes with former champion Rashad Evans for a crack at current 205-pound kingpin, Johnny “Bones” Jones. The battle lines have been drawn this Saturday and only one man from each fight can come a crucial step closer to their championship dreams at UFC on FOX 2. Just which contender has what it takes to pass the test in order to headline a future PPV against the current title holder?
Chael Sonnen (26-11) is not heavy handed but implements perfectly placed punches which set up thriving takedowns. Closing the distance masterfully off of faints and jabs, he excels in smothering an opponent, forcing them into his world. While only Sonnen’s jiu-jitsu defense serves as a slight chink in his armor, Michael "The Count" Bisping (22-3) has never threatened anyone with his ground wizardry. Not to be dismissed for lack of effort, Bisping is in his comfort zone when grinding out decisions. However, Chael’s superior wrestling combined with ease in anyone’s guard not named Anderson Si..........
