San Antonio, TX -In front of a packed crowd in the Alamodome, Nonito Donaire makes good on his word and defeats Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. via split decision.
With the entire crowd behind him, Vazquez Jr. was not able to capitalize. Donaire seemed the physically stronger fighter landing the harder shots. Donaire scored the only knock down of the fight when he landed a crisp two punch combination that sent Vazquez to the canvas. Vazquez showed heart and resiliency as he shook it off and fought through the championship rounds.
After the final decision was announced, the crowd was in shock as Donaire showed his left hand which was red with blood. He would explain to Larry Merchant in his post fight interview that he fought almost the entire fight with his hand hurt. "I think it was in the second or third that I hurt my hand. But I fought through. I am a warrior" said Donaire.

Antonio, TX – Live from the Alamodome HBO kicks of its first installment of
World Championship. Today all fighters took to the scales and officially made
weight to move onto to Saturday night’s double header. Local supporters packed
in today to see fan favorite undefeated WBC Middleweight Champion “Son of the
Legend” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1 31KOP’s) step on the scales. Stripping
down to nothing at all, Chavez Jr. weighed in at 159.5 lbs.
Facing Chavez for
the WBC strap is fellow countryman Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5-1 46 KO’s) who came
in at a ready and fit 159 lbs. While most might remember Rubio’s last title
appearance falling short to then champ Kelly Pavlik, Rubio has quietly been on a
ten fight win streak knocking out his last six opponents.
Rising star and
Pound for Pound fighter Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18KO’s) tipped the scales at 121.6
lb, while his opponent Wilfedo Vazquez Jr. came in at 122 lbs. Interestingly
enough things have heated up in the last week via twitter wars, but not from the
fighters themselves but from their significant others. Things have really
reached a boiling point as both fighters are now left cashing the checks that
their wives have written. Both fighters looked ripped and
